About

David Wells

New Zealander, living in Barcelona. Mechanical engineer by training. I went from university into glass container manufacturing in Melbourne and ended up running a production line and the 18 people on it.

That plant is where my habits come from. A furnace runs for years without stopping, so there is no maintenance window and no staging environment. Every change lands on a line that is mid-order and being measured while you change it, and three crews who never sit in the same room have to understand it the same way.

I have never held a project manager title. I led projects from the operations side, and I know what a constraint costs because I have paid for one. The MSc, finished this year at 93%, and the PMP in October put the vocabulary under what I was already doing.

Alongside that I build software, self-taught and most of it with AI: Vera, a CSRD platform that grew out of the thesis and is now a company, a glass network that runs in the browser, a timetabling agent, this site. Building the thing is faster than writing the document about it, and a better argument.

I'm after a delivery role where the work is technical, the cadence is real and someone has to keep several kinds of work visible at once. Barcelona or EU-remote. I am comfortable being the translation layer between engineers and the people paying for the work.
